Make the Road Action Endorses Slate of Long Island Progressive Candidates

Top immigrant advocacy group backs Rice, Suozzi, Throne-Holst, Cronin, Gaughran, Haber, Kaminsky, Eramo, and Ramos

Long Island, NY — Make the Road Action (MRA), the grassroots advocacy organization representing Latino communities in New York City and Long Island, today released its endorsement of progressive candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, New York State Senate, and New York State Assembly. MRA, the sister organization of the 19,000-member non-profit Make the Road New York, has emerged in recent years as a strong progressive leader in local and state elections and policy campaigns affecting Latino, immigrant, and LGBTQ communities.

Endorsed candidates include:

Congress: Kathleen Rice, Tom Suozzi, Anna Throne-Holst

State Senate: Ryan Cronin, Jim Gaughran, Adam Haber, Todd Kaminsky, John Brooks, John DeVito,

State Assembly: Anthony Eramo, Phil Ramos

Marlenis de los Santos, member of Make the Road Action and registered Long Island voter, said: “Long Island needs bold progressive leadership to stand up for the needs and rights of working families throughout our communities. These federal and state candidates have demonstrated their commitment to protecting workers’ rights, expanding access to education, immigrant empowerment and integration, and reforming our political system so that all people’s voices our heard. I can’t wait to talk to my neighbors and friends about why they should vote for the candidates we are endorsing.”

Make the Road Action’s endorsement adds momentum for progressive candidates across Long Island, who have built strong campaigns and are poised to take advantage of growing suburban discontent with presidential candidate Donald Trump and the Republican candidates who support him. A recent Siena poll showed that strong majorities in the suburbs support Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump and believe that Donald Trump’s candidacy will hurt Republicans down-ballot.
